How to Verify Transfer Journal Quantity for Rail Car Transfers

When doing a Rail Car Transfer Journal, it is important to transfer the entire quantity of material in the Rail Car.  Sometimes when doing these Transfer Journals, the only information the user has is the Rail Car License Plate number.  Here is how to create the Transfer Journal and find the quantity of material that is in the Rail Car to be transferred.

As you can see in the screenshot below, we are transferring Rail Car GATX209800 in Saint Paul from Location: TransRR to Location: Placed.  The Quantity will default to -1, leave this at the default -1 then enter the From and To Site, Warehouse, Location, Batch Number and License Plate.

After all information has been entered for the Journal Line, click the Inventory button, in drop down menu click On Hand.  This will open the On-Hand Inventory Screen for the Item in the Journal Line.   In our case we are using Item: 110000 : ANSOL.

You will see in the On-Hand Inventory screen the Available Physical quantity.  Highlight this quantity then, right click and from the popup menu click Copy then click Close to close the On-Hand Inventory screen.

Now back at the Journal Lines screen, highlight the -1 in the Quantity field, right click the highlighted value and from the dropdown menu click Paste.   This will paste the previously copied Available Physical quantity into the Journal Line Quantity.

Using this method for transferring Rail Car inventory will allow the user to verify they are transferring the entire Available Physical quantity.  Now that all is verified, the user can Post the Transfer Journal.
