You can create a released product in D365 by copying another existing product if most of the settings match. This depends on the user sending you a similar product you can use as a template. You should check with the user/Accounting to make sure you can use a template.
First navigate to:
Product information management >> Products >> Released products
Find and select the existing item you wish to copy
On the Product tab in the Ribbon, choose Template >> Create personal template.
(Personal templates only show up for your user account. Shared templates show for everyone)
In the Create template flyover pane on the right side, enter a name for the template and a description. (Can be the item number/description)
Click “OK” to continue
You will be returned to the Released products page.
Click the “New” button at the top.
This will open the New released product flyover pane on the right side.
Choose the template you just created in the “Apply template” dropdown box and most of the settings should fill in.
Enter the desired Product number, Product name, Search name, Item number and item number Search name.
Click the “OK” button to continue.
You will be returned to the Released product details page.
In the Engineer tab in the Ribbon, choose “Formula versions”
This will open the Formula version page.
This next part may be easier if you open a separate tab and open the formula information for the already existing product you copied to make sure the settings here match other than formula differences.
At the top, choose New >> “Formula version”
This will create a new Formula version record for the product.
In the Formula version fasttab, enter the “From formula size” and “From date” (Date should be before whenever the request to use the product is)
In the Formula details fasttab, enter “Formula size”, “Formula multiple”, and “Yield” if required.
Next you need to create the formula itself.
In the Formula tab in the Ribbon, choose “Formula”
This will open the Formulas page.
In the “Formula lines” fasttab, choose “New”
This will add a formula line. (The formula should be supplied by the user requesting the new product. If not, they’ll need to)
Choose the “Item number” (Raw material used to make the finished product)
Choose the “Warehouse” where it’ll pull from.
Enter the Quantity (Percentage of the total materials)
Check the “Scalable” checkbox.
In the “Line details” fasttab select the “Setup” tab.
For Flushing principle choose “Finish”
For Rounding-up choose “Quantity”
For Multiples, enter “1”
Keep adding lines until you are done and click the “Save” button at the top. Close the page.
You will be returned to the Formula versions page. You should now see your formula information that you just entered.
If you are ready for the product to be made, proceed, otherwise skip the Approval and Activation steps.
In the Formula version tab in the Ribbon, choose “Approval”
In the Approve version flyover pane on the right side, make sure to select “Yes” to the Do you also want to approve the formula toggle.
Click the “OK” button to continue.
You will be returned to the Formula versions page.
In the Formula version tab in the Ribbon, choose “Activate”
Close the Formula versions page and you will be returned to the Released product details page.
The formula has been created, but there’s a few extra steps you’ll need to do to complete the task.
First create a Batch number if required.
In the Manage inventory tab of the Ribbon, choose “Batches”
This will open the Batches window.
Click the “New” button at the top.
Enter the Batch number required.
Save and close this window.
You’ll be returned to the Batches window. Close this window.
You will be returned to the Released product details window.
In the Product tab of the Ribbon, choose “Invent fixed location”
Choose the “Site”, “Warehouse”, and “Location” fields and click “OK”
You will be returned to the Released product details page.
You are now done.
