How to Set Up a Mechanic Worker Record in D365

If you get a request to set up a Mechanic in D365 follow the following directions. Make sure that the requester is asking to have a Mechanic name set up where it shows in the dropdown for Resource in the Work order journal lines Hours area. If the user needs to access D365 and do work, that’s setting up a new user account.

Navigate to

Human resources >> Workers >> Workers

This will open the Workers page.

Make sure the user isn’t already set up here, if not, choose “New” at the top.

This will open the Hire new worker flyover pane on the right side.

Enter the user’s First name and Last name

Choose the Employment start date (If you don’t have this, just pick the most recent 1st day of the month.)

Enter the employee’s ID number with two leading zeros in the Personnel number field.

Click “Hire and add details” to continue.

You will be taken to the Worker details page.

On the Worker summary fasttab, for Designation, choose “Mechanic

Next you need to create a Resource.

Navigate to

Project management and accounting >> Project resources >> Resource list

This will open the Resources list page. Make sure the user doesn’t already exist first, if not, click the “New resource” button at the top.

This will open the New resource flyover pane on the right side.

Choose the Worker you created earlier. The Resource name should populate to the same.

Click “Create” to continue. You are now done. Save and exit.
